I was once asked what I like most about making glass beads. My first thoughts drifted to the actual creation process and the calmness I feel when working at the flame. I am mesmerized by the heat and power of the flame – by the way the glass melts and flows and by the challenge and commitment it takes to create the beads. But if pressed to say this is what I enjoy MOST – I would have to say no. My most enjoyable moment has nothing to do with the process what-so-ever.

It’s the feeling.

Jewelry is an emotional purchase – very seldom a necessity and quite often a comfort. We give jewelry to express our love, to enhance our beauty and make us feel good about ourselves or help someone else feel good. It’s the happiness on the face of my customers who find the “perfect” pair of earrings and it’s the excitement in the eyes of a little girl who can’t wait until Christmas – can’t wait to give her mother the set of earrings that will have a matching pair for her as well. She doesn’t appreciate the art behind the gift – she only knows that this gift will make her mother happy and her pair will make her “Just Like Mommy”. This is what I enjoy most – the feeling that I am able to give – and in turn get.
